Silverthorne Nordic Center open for the season

SILVERTHORNE – Silverthorne’s free answer to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ski skating opened for its fifth season Thursday. The Silverthorne Nordic Center is located at the Raven at Three Peaks Golf Course, at 2929 Golden Eagle Road off Highway 9. The center offers beginner through advanced trails – the North Trail is 4-kilometer intermediate level trail and the South Trail is a groomed 3.7-kilometer trail. Raven Golf Course staff will groom and clear the trails approximately three times per week as weather allows. Rental equipment is not available at the center.The Silverthorne Parks, Open Space, Recreation and Trails (SPORT) committee established the center in 2001. SPORT was formed in 1997. Its projects are funded with 85 percent of the Silverthorne lodging tax.The 5th annual Swift Skedaddle Snowshoe Race, which is a qualifier for the National Snowshoe Championships, will once again be held at the Silverthorne Nordic Center at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006.
