Silverthorne Officer recognized for drunken driving enforcement

SILVERTHORNE – Silverthorne Police Officer Britt Dinsmore received the annual Heat is On Award at a ceremony Friday in Broomfield.

The award is given to police officers and troopers from around the state who distinguish themselves in the area of drunken driving enforcement and public awareness efforts. In Colorado, the program is in its seventh year. Since 1996, drunken driving arrests in the state have increased 26 percent. More importantly, alcohol-related traffic fatalities have decreased 20 percent statewide.

In 2001, Officer Dinsmore arrested more than 60 drunken drivers. He was also the department’s DARE officer, and worked with the Summit Prevention Alliance in their education and compliance efforts throughout Summit County. Silverthorne DUI arrests were down 65 percent, in part due to the public education and awareness efforts of Dinsmore, according to department officials.
