Silverthorne Pavilion seeks grant applicants

Aidan Leonard

SILVERTHORNE – With less than two weeks left for the submission of grant applications for free or reduced use of the Silverthorne Pavilion, the town is trying to reach out to a broader range of nonprofits around the county.

“What we’re finding is that we’re helping the same nonprofits over and over,” pavilion and special events coordinator Maggie Butler said. “While we like that arrangement, and we’d like to see that continue, we’d (also) like to see some new nonprofits step up to the plate.

“I just don’t think they know about us,” she added.

Applications are down slightly so far this year, though Butler said she expects things to pick up during the home stretch. Applications are due Aug. 22 for events proposed in 2004.

“We’re still 14 days out, so I believe we will get the same volume as last year,” Butler said on Friday.

The town is offering eight free uses and 15 uses discounted by 40 percent to local nonprofits that meet certain criteria. Last year, the total value of the free and discounted use of the pavilion the town granted was $19,360, according to Butler.

Groups that have benefitted from the grants in the past include the Summit Foundation, Summit Public Radio, the Summit Choral Society and Summit County High School.

“We want to see more people come to the plate so that we can help an ever-growing population,” Butler said. “I’d like to see some fresh, new nonprofits.”

Applications are available by calling the Silverthorne Pavilion office at (970) 262-7390.
