Locals head to Silverthorne to shop. Whether it’s a trip to Target for basic home necessities, a day at the Silverthorne Factory Stores for high-fashion clothing or a visit to one of the town’s ski shops for new gear, Silverthorne offers a shopping experience that takes away the need for monthly trips to Denver.

Last summer, the Silverthorne Factory Stores completed the first phase of a $13 million renovation. The improvements brighten the three villages scattered along Highway 9 with new entrances, bigger signs and more public spaces, not to mention more nationally recognized name-brand stores.

But Silverthorne offers more than a shopping experience. The majority of locals live in town ” 80 percent of the properties are occupied by year-round residents ” or in ever-expanding subdivisions to the north. The $6 million Silverthorne Recreation Center and $4 million Silverthorne Pavilion offer year-round activities for all ages.

Outdoor recreation is likely to improve with a plan to extend the recreation path along the Blue River through town. The river ” popular for fishing ” will become a focal point for pedestrian traffic once the ambitious plan comes to fruition.

In the future, Silverthorne could look a lot different. Town planners and the town council have their eyes on the Blue River in hopes of making a thriving downtown centered on the Blue, one of the most popular fishing spots in the state.
