Silverthorne should not be swayed by out-of-town interest opposing Safeway

Mike Stoveken, Silverthorne

I don’t understand why there seems to be more opposition to commercial use on the Smith Ranch property from parties living outside of Silverthorne town limits than in the town itself.

It seems like these “interested parties” have appointed themselves as guardians of the town. We saw the same thing happen during the recent elections.

I am curious as to why they feel they should influence how the town pays for services it offers to its residents. I assume that if cannot pay for town services with a sales tax, the alternative is a property tax for Silverthorne homeowners.

They also are attempting to dictate land use in the town limits. I feel that residents of the town of Silverthorne are intelligent individuals who can make decisions on issues involving their town without influence from nonresident individuals that have their own agenda on town issues.

All I ask of my Silverthorne neighbors is to learn the facts for yourself and don’t rely on yard signs and advertising to make your decision.

Whether it is yes or no, please vote Dec. 9.
