Silverthorne takes up smoking ban

The Silverthorne Town Council tonight will take a preliminary vote on it’s drafted smoking ban after a public hearing on the matter.

Silverthorne’s proposed ban is similar to the one recently passed by the Summit County commissioners. It would prohibit smoking in enclosed, public places, including bars and restaurants.

Just like the pending smoking bans in the county and towns of Dillon, Frisco and Breckenridge, Silverthorne’s ban would begin June 1, if it is approved on the first and second reading of the ordinance.

The public is invited to comment on the proposed smoking ban at the town council meeting beginning at 6 p.m. today in the town hall at Sixth Street and Center Circle in Silverthorne.

The council is scheduled to hold a final vote on the smoking ban at its March 24 meeting.
