Silverthorne to host annual Pumpkin Fest Saturday

SILVERTHORNE – Silverthorne is again hosting the Pumpkin Fest, a family event highlighted by the free distribution of pumpkins.

The second annual festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Silverthorne pavilion.

Events throughout the day include a 1 p.m. Halloween costume contest and a 1:30 p.m. pumpkin carving and painting contest. Other highlights include Halloween games, cookie decorating, prizes and free food from Mountain Lyon Cafe.

Premier Mortgage Group partnered with the town of Silverthorne to get the event rolling last year.

“It’s basically our way of saying thank you to the community,” said Silverthorne Premier Mortgage branch manager Brandee Vanderwerf. “Everything is free. We’ve got about 500 pumpkins to give away. They can take them right inside (the pavilion) and carve them right there and enter them in the pumpkin-carving contest.”

Pavilion coordinator Maggie Butler said Silverthorne is delighted with the celebration.

“We were trying to find an event to celebrate Halloween, and Premier Mortgage came to us (with the idea) last year,” she said. “We’d like to see the event snowball and expand in the future. I think Silverthorne is going to corner the market on this one.”

Vanderwerf also encouraged festival-goers to bring canned goods, which will be donated to the county food bank.
