Skateboarder killed after hanging on to car

ARVADA ” Arvada police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy who was on a skateboard being pulled by a Jeep.

Police say Austin Ayers died Sunday after he was hit by the Jeep when he let go of the vehicle. Police say Ayers had been hanging on to the Jeep’s passenger’s side door or window.

Arvada police spokeswoman Susan Medina says Ayers’ did not know the driver of the Jeep and detectives are investigating why and how the teenager grabbed onto the car.

Police have not identified the driver, saying only he is a 34-years-old man.

Police are also investigating how fast the driver was going on the 30-mph road.
