SUMMIT COUNTY – Ski areas throughout Summit and Eagle counties are raising awareness about staying safe on the mountain.

During National Ski Safety Awareness Week, today through Jan. 22, resorts will host a number of interactive events to help skiers and riders of all levels learn more about safety on the slopes.

Today through Monday, Copper will feature three days of education, demonstrations and giveaways, with $4,000 worth of prizes. The ski area will host daily avalanche dog demos at 12:45 p.m. and a Flight For Life helicopter tour at ski patrol headquarters today at 10 a.m.

Copper Safety Fest tents will be open daily, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Guests who visit all booths will be entered into a drawing, held at 1 p.m. each day. Prizes include lift tickets, helmets, hats, vests, safety gear, snowcat tours and more.

Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek will host a variety of activities all week, including ski patrol open houses, avalanche dog demonstrations, helmet discounts, terrain park safety demonstrations and avalanche awareness education.

“Vail Resorts places the highest value on the safety of its guests and its employees, and we work hard to promote safety every day,” said John Garnsey, co-president of Vail Resorts’ mountain division. “National Safety Awareness Week gives us a great opportunity to highlight safety awareness practices among all our guests and employees.”
