Ski shop owners vouch for value of Texas visitors

Richard Meyer, Breckenridge

I am writing in support of Zak Anderson’s letter about Texas being such an important part of the local tourist economy.

My wife and I have owned and operated a ski shop in Breckenridge since 1991. Texas, along with many other states, provides the financial livelihood for our business and many others in town.

Anybody who would display hostility or animosity to Texans or any other tourists is not acting in the best interest of our town.

Where do these hostile “locals” think their paychecks come from? Do these people really think our international ski resort exists solely on the support of Buddy Passes and in-state skiers? The ski/snowboard industry is not growing – at best it is stagnant.

Ski resorts are expanding only by taking business from other ski resorts. If we cannot take care of our visitors, then our competitors will. I hope that Zak’s experience is the exception rather than the rule. I appeal to others who would consider displaying such rudeness.

Living and working in Summit County is a privilege that is only possible through the support of tourism. We need to display courtesy and kindness to those who visit our town and allow us to enjoy our exceptional lifestyle.

Aside from the economic motivations for “locals” to do the right thing, I have always found Texans to be friendly and polite. Why would any us choose to be any less than that?
