"Ski vacation specialist’ is preferred over "ski reservation taker’

Caroline F. Gannon, ski vacation specialist, Alma

While the article about Vail Resorts dropping its cancellation fees was interesting, I would like to point out that there are a lot of people in Summit and Eagle counties working in the ski reservation industry who might take offense at being referred to as a “reservation taker.”

After 15 years total in the travel industry with seven in the ski vacation industry, I prefer “ski vacation specialist,” or at very least, “ski vacation salesperson.”

Referring to someone as a “reservation taker” is like calling a newspaper reporter an “opinion writer” or even worse, a “hearsay-scribbler.” Many of us take pride in selling Summit County and the lodging options offered here and are certainly more than “reservation takers.”
