Skier dies at Winter Park

Grand County correspondent

WINTER PARK ” A skier died Wednesday at Winter Park Resort, apparently due to health reasons.

At 1:55 p.m., a 68-year-old male skier from Arvada was found unconscious on the Cranmer Trail. Resort ski patrollers were in the area and responded immediately.

The unconscious skier was transported to Seven Mile Clinic at the base of Winter Park Resort, where the skier was pronounced dead by the clinic’s doctors at about 2:30 p.m.

The cause of death has not been determined at this time. In its press release about the incident, the resort reported that there was “no indication that any other person or obstacle was involved” in the cause of the man’s death.

A routine investigation of the incident is under way. The Fraser-Winter Park Police and Grand County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.

“There were no signs of trauma or collision,” said Police Chief Glen Trainor. “Our thinking right now is that the cause of death is probably medically related.”
