Slifer, Smith and Frampton donate office space to Breckenridge Festival of Film

In the last few years, we’ve experienced how profoundly the real estate market affects everything around us. But today, two nonprofits art organizations are celebrating how they’re benefiting from real estate sales.

From 5-7 p.m., the Breckenridge Festival of Film hosts a public reception to show off its new office space in Main Street Station, donated by Slifer, Smith and Frampton.

The real estate company was able to donate part of its office space to the Breckenridge Festival of Film, as well as the Backstage Theatre, because it has sold all 26 condos in its luxury development known as Water House. Slifer, Smith and Frampton previously used the space as the Water House sales center, and now, it doesn’t need the additional square footage.

Meanwhile, arts organizations like the Backstage Theatre have been looking for extra space. In January, artistic director Chris Willard initiated a search for a new office, and when the folks from the Breckenridge Film Festival mentioned they had space, “it proved to be perfect for our needs,” Willard said.

“This opportunity was heaven-sent for us,” he said. “It gives us some Main Street exposure and a more conducive working space than our present office space in back of the theater.”

Slifer, Smith and Frampton support local nonprofit organizations and events by donating time and finances, said Melanie Frank, the company’s vice president and managing broker.

“Slifer Smith and Frampton Real Estate brokers and employees do not just work in Summit County, we are an active part of our community,” Frank said. “… With forward thinking and mutual cooperation, we were able to create a winning partnership with the Breckenridge Film Festival.”

Karin Bearnarth, past film festival president, views the collaboration between the Breckenridge Film Festival and the Backstage as part of the arts’ organizations broader goal of establishing a cultural arts center. Since moving into the space, many other arts organizations have asked if they can share the space.

“The need is definitely there for a cultural arts center,” said Dawna Foxx, director of the film festival. “We hope others can share the space with us, too.”

“The generosity that Slifer, Smith and Frampton has shown is … a first step in embracing the office needs of our arts community,” Bearnarth said. “This space is so impressive. We can host events here, invite school children in for educational purposes and entertain patrons and sponsors.”
