Snowmobiling Summit

If skiing isn’t your thing but you love being outdoors in the winter chances are you’ve already discovered snowmobiling. Summit County has many popular and scenic routes. Rainbow Lake in Frisco ranks high with locals and visitors alike. Deer Creek in the Keystone/Montezuma area is another nearby destination. Spring Creek trail on Sheephorn Mountain offers stunning views. Swan Valley in Breckenridge is another very popular trail. This one can be quite crowded so keep that in mind before heading out.

Always practice proper trail etiquette and safety. Stay on the trail. Backcountry rescue is costly when available and the mountains are highly prone to avalanche. Check snow conditions and avalanche reports at the local ranger station or by calling the Colorado Avalanche Information Center at 970-668-0600. You can also visit their web site at http://geosurvey.state.co.us/avalanche/

There are also many guide and rental outfitters in Summit County. They can set up with sleds and escort your party through some of the most scenic and beautiful terrain Colorado has to offer. Guided tours are the safest and most worry free way to go. For more information and guided tours and rental options search our local yellow pages listing at the top of the page.
