Snowshoe walk to bring 2,000 participants to Frisco

FRISCO – The 3rd Annual Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe event at the Frisco Nordic Center March 5 is expected to host more than 2,000 snowshoers, nearly doubling the 980 participants last year. All proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research and their local Denver Metropolitan affiliate. Participants are challenged to raise pledges prior to the event from friends, family members and businesses, with 100 percent of the money raised going to the foundation. Participants who have collected pledges of $100 or more are eligible for raffle prizes. The top pledge collector receives a grand prize provided by Tubbs snowshoes and other national sponsors. Open to all abilities, the Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Walk begins with registration and pledge collections at 8 a.m. An optional 3K snowshoe fun run takes place at 9 a.m. with prizes awarded to the top finishers. The main event begins at 9:45 a.m. with a non-competitive 3K or 5K benefit snowshoe walk. The closing ceremony begins at 11 a.m. with a short tribute from a breast cancer survivor, an awards presentation to top finishers and raffle drawings. Prizes include snowshoes, trekking poles, headlamps, footwear, hydration packs, jackets, fleece vests and more from numerous sponsors. There will be a free pancake breakfast provided by Wells Fargo, as well as a live performance by local singer/guitarist Nancy Cook. Off-site parking and registration will be located at the Summit Middle School and the Summit County Community and Senior Center. Shuttles from the parking areas will be provided by Summit School District. Registration is required to board the shuttle busses. Up to 400 pairs of snowshoes are available to use free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, but participants are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes or rent at a local shop. Registration and pledge information can be downloaded online at http://www.tubbsromptostomp.com. Pre-registration is $18 and can be paid online until March 1 or postmarked and mailed two weeks prior to the event. Registration on the day of the event is $20.
