An estimated 150 Summit County elementary school girls participated in a coordinated Girls on the Run road race Saturday, Nov. 1, in Steamboat Springs.

Rumor has it that because the event had more than 1,000 total participants, the regional run might be split into two races in the future, with Summit County being an option for the second race.

Girls on the Run is a youth-development program incorporating physical activity for girls in third through eighth grades. The organization teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5-kilometer running event.
