Soldiers thank Summit for outpouring of gifts

Capt. David Foster, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

I am the soldier referenced in your Feb. 17 letter to the editor, “Family says soldiers would love for Summit County to send baked goods.”

To say the response from Summit County residents was massive is an understatement. For all of the soldiers, Marines, sailors and Department of Defense civilians who benefited from your warm gifts, I say thank you.

Your generosity in taking personal time to send these warm gifts is truly appreciated by all of us. From elementary school children, families and individuals, we received an enormous amount of goods that brought the ever-sought “touch of home.”

Thank you for supporting all of our military personnel during this time of war. Continue to keep us in your prayers. Especially remember our families whom we have left behind to fight their own war keeping things at home together.

Theirs is a difficult task – in my mind more so in some ways than that of soldiers in the desert. We all are getting the job done with the support of people like you. God bless America!
