Sorry for our purple haze |

Sorry for our purple haze

Kim Johnson, San Diego

As a part-time Summit County resident now walking around in the cinders of what once was San Diego, I want to apologize for the smoke.

But a word of warning: Do not depend on the firefighting resources of your state and federal government. While many brave firefighters did incredible jobs here in San Diego, the overall government response was woefully inadequate.

Property owners need to make their land as defensible as possible – really. If the Hayden fire did not bring that message home, take my word for it. Get out your chainsaws before next summer.
