Spay Day 2008 is Tuesday

SPECIAL TO THE DAILY

In February of 2006, animal welfare agencies throughout western Colorado joined forces and created Western Colorado Animal Resources (WeCARe). WeCARe is a network dedicated to assisting Western Colorado agencies in providing a variety of effective services to animals and their communities.

Spay Day USA is today and was initially established to focus on the importance of reducing pet overpopulation. Despite efforts by animal welfare professionals, there are still too many pets and not enough homes.

WeCARe member agencies will be sponsoring programs the week of Feb. 23-29 that will provide pet owners assistance in finding affordable spay/neuter services. In communities across the Western Slope, clinics and shelters will be offering vouchers or discounts to make spay/neuter services affordable for those who might not otherwise spay or neuter their pets.

For assistance in locating a participating agency in your area, please contact the Summit County Animal Control at (970) 668-3230.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
