Speakeasy Theater closing for season

Amanda Roberson

Breckenridge’s only movie theater, the Speakeasy, is closed for mud season. Owner Mike Anderson said he plans to reopen in the first few weeks of June, depending on what movies become available.”We had a fantastic season. So many people thanked me for the movies we brought in,” Anderson said. “At first we were unsure how everything would work out, but the locals came in droves.”Anderson brings artistic, independent, and Oscar-nominated films to the Speakeasy, keeping his eyes and ears open for the latest movies “outside mainstream America.” Contracts with Universal and Warner Brothers allow him to get movies shortly after their release. The Speakeasy will feature another round of quality films next season, and the addition of a new partner will allow for more advertising and promotion, Anderson said .Amanda Roberson can be reached at 970-668-3998 ext. 245 or by e-mail at aroberson@summitdaily.com.
