Speaker Romanoff to address Chamber Thursday

Andrew Romanoff, speaker of the Colorado State House of Representatives, will address the Summit Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Affairs Council at noon on Thursday, July 24, in the Fireside Room at the Frisco Holiday Inn.

Speaker Romanoff will discuss his proposed amendment to the Colorado constitution,”Savings Account for Education (SAFE). The proposed amendment would abolish the Amendment 23 requirement that education spending increase every year, and would eliminate the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights requirement that revenues collected above the current TABOR limits be refunded to taxpayers. The measure would also create a special reserve fund for education. Romanoff is the first Democrat since 1975 to hold the position of Speaker of the House. He was first elected as a State Representative in 2000, and is completing his final term in the House.

The public affairs meetings addressing local, county, state and federal issues are sponsored monthly by the Summit Chamber, usually on the second Wednesday of the month.

Please RSVP by noon, Wednesday, July 23 to events@summitchamber.org or (970) 668-2051, ext. 2. The public is welcome.
