Austrian skier out for rest of World Cup season

INNSBRUCK, Austria – Austrian skier Maria Holaus will miss the rest of the women’s World Cup season due to injuries on both knees.Holaus ruptured collateral ligaments in her right knee and tore cruciate ligaments and broke the upper part of the shinbone on the left after crashing in Sunday’s super-G race in Sestriere, Italy, the Austrian ski federation said Tuesday.Surgery was not necessary but Holaus will need six weeks to recover, the federation said in a statement.The 24-year-old Holaus won a super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, in January for her first World Cup victory, and finished second in a downhill race in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Feb. 2.
