Breck Demo Days brings cycling clinics, expos and a night ride to Breckenridge

Welcome to the new and improved Breck Bike Week.

From now until June 28, Breckenridge is hosting a town-wide celebration of all-things-biking under a freshly branded name, Breck Demo Days. The weekend includes a slew of free clinics, group rides and expos, along with the requisite demo gear. There will be mountain bikes, road bikes, cruiser bikes and even a few kid-friendly Stryder bikes, all in the name of promoting the summer of cycling.

"Whether you prefer the backcountry or the recpaths, Demo Days is an excellent opportunity to discover Breckenridge's unmatched cycling network and a community of cyclists that rides together," says Rachel Zerowin with the Breckenridge Tourism Office, a Demo Days organizer.

The five-day event kicked off June 24 with Colorado Bike to Work Day. During the morning rush, representatives with the tourism office set up tents along Main Street and the Breckenridge recreation path to supply bike-bound commuters with water, freebies and, of course, motivation. More than 100 cyclists stopped by the tents, and organizers expect hundreds more to catch the cycling bug this weekend. The event roster has already proven enticing: The female-only Yeti Beti mountain bike clinics on Thursday and Saturday were filled within days. And, why not? Like the majority of wheeled distractions this weekend, they're free.

But never fear — there's still plenty of pedaling to be had. Here's a look at the best of the best from Breck Demo Days.

Lights will be provided for those who don't have a headlamp. Cyclists meet in the gondola lot at 7:45 p.m. before heading out in small groups.

Music begins at 6 p.m., followed by the screening shortly after sundown at 10 p.m.

Wellington Bike Park and Pump Track rides

Just opened on June 15, the new facility was constructed by Peter Mills of Elevated Trail Designs and members of the town's trail crew. The park is designed for all abilities and features a large pump track, a Stryder track, three flow trails (one beginner and two intermediate) and a skills area featuring "skinnies" and a small rock garden. The park is in the Wellington neighborhood.
