Eric Willett’s break-out season continues to get better and better.

The 22-year-old Breckenridge snowboarder took home the gold medal Thursday in slopestyle at the Winter X Games Europe in Tignes, France.

Willett landed a second run that included at frontside double cork 1080 and finished with a double backside rodeo to earn a score of 91.0, according to ESPN.

No rider came within five points of him.

Sage Kotsenburg was second, and Mark Grilc took home the bronze.

For Willett, the win capped off an incredible 2009-10 season.

The Breck rider had an early season podium at his home mountain in the Winter Dew Tour in December, then took silver in Winter X Games 14. He followed that up in February with winning the 5 Star TTR World Tour in Italy.

And now, Willett, born and raised in Summit County, has the distinction of the first-ever Winter X Games Europe slopestyle champion.

“That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do since I was a little kid,” Willett told the Daily earlier this year about competing in the X Games. “It was like a dream come true.”
