FARMER’S KORNER – Summit boys’ swim and dive team were overpowered Tuesday by Conifer’s sizable squad, said Coach Eric Godsmen of their home meet loss.Conifer beat SHS, 112-63, in most part due to a greater number of Conifer boys competing in relay competitions, Godsmen added.”Individuals get 20 points,” he said. “Relays get 40 points.”

Despite being out-numbered, SHS held their own with wins by Tom Sawyer, Zach Michieli and diver Blake Lord.Top performer Sawyer won both the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.09) and the 100 butterfly (58.87). Both scores requalified him for state and he even shaved off a half-second from his individual medley time. (He’s already qualified in the 200 medley relay.)Michieli won the 100 backstroke (1:10.33), a definite accomplishment since he began competing in the event this season. He’s progressing quickly, Godsmen said, due to practice and attention to arm placement.

Sawyer also finished second in the 200 medley relay with teammates Michieli, Justin Skall and Shane Meister (1:58.68). Skall placed second in the 200 free (5:55.74) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.75). Raphael Joly placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.16) and third in the 200 individual medley (2:20.41). Blake Lord won diving with 125.4 points, followed by Jack Snead in second place with 105.25 points.

Despite the loss, Godsmen said, the meet prepped Tiger boys for this weekend’s league meet. “It was good for them to go against some really fast guys,” he said. “It’ll give them a heads up on what to expect.”SHS will compete in the Jeffco league meet Friday and Saturday at Meyers Pool in Arvada.
