Frisco Bay Marina welcomes summer with Rock the Dock, National Marina Day this June

In honor of all things summery, Frisco Bay Marina welcomes sailors and landlubbers alike back to the water with a slew of early-season events and parties this June.

Rock the Dock party, June 4

Kicking things off is the annul Rock the Dock party, held this Saturday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the marina. The celebration includes just about everything you need for a warm, sun-drenched day on the shores of Lake Dillon: a $6 burger and beer deal from the Island Grill, free live music by local band Knight Groove, a chance to check out the rental fleet of paddle crafts and powerboats and, of course, plenty of marina-themed giveaways.

It's a party to the core, but that doesn't mean Rock the Dock is adults only. The event is open to water lovers of all ages, with opportunities to register for lessons or other clinics through the Frisco Rowing Center and Windrider of the Rockies, the marina's in-house sailboat service.

"We are thankful that the sun has decided to make a sustained appearance for the marina opening," marina guest services manager Jenn Shimp said after the official opening last weekend. "Rock the Dock will be our happy hour style open house."

On June 11, the Saturday after Rock the Dock, Frisco celebrates National Marina Day with another open house. The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with free breakfast courtesy of the rowing center. Between bites, visitors have the chance to demo rowboats, the center's rowing machine and an on-site rowing simulator. The rowing center hosts another open house on the morning of June 19.

Free breakfast ends at 10 a.m. on June 11, but that's just the start of National Marina Day. Frisco also plays host to a boat swap, sailing gear swap, free demos and free paddle lessons. Free canoe, kayak and SUP lessons run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and last 20 minutes — the perfect way to get your feet wet with a new sport.

In need of new gear? The boat swap is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 11 and open to anyone in the boat market. Participants can trade, sell, buy or barter kayaks, rafts, SUP boards, sailboats and everything in between. All sellers must remain with their for-sale items at all times during the swap, and all boats must be removed from the premises immediately following the swap. There is no storage space for sold or unsold items.

As usual, the marina simply acts as a venue for the swap, not a middleman. All transactions are between buyer and seller only, and marina staff won't handle any monetary transactions. Sellers and buyers should be prepared to handle transactions with cash or checks (if accepted).

If you have a sailboat or other rig on a trailer, call the marina first to reserve a space, as space is limited. Registration is not required for any other sellers.

"National Marina Day will be a chance to get out on the water with the Frisco Rowing Center and the Frisco Bay Marina," Shimp said. "This year we will have a boat swap in celebration of National Marina Day, so folks can get into their own river or lake craft or make some room in their garage for new toys."
