It’s time to get down and dirty the MTB way at the Frisco Bike Fling.

On June 12, the Frisco Adventure Park hosts a full day of rides, contests and music at the Frisco Bike Park. This bike-centered party celebrates the start of the summer cycling season with a dual slalom race, a jump jam, bike demos, group rides and live tunes from local band Horizon Line. All activities will be free, with food and drink available for sale throughout the day.

“The Bike Fling has been a tradition at the Frisco Bike Park for a few years now,” said Brian Donner, the recreation operations manager at the Frisco Adventure Park. “It is a way to get like-minded bike folks together for a day to celebrate this incredibly well-loved bike park and trail system.”

The bike fling is open to all ages and ability levels, although bike park staff recommends that all participants be familiar with either downhill racing or dirt jumping in order to compete. Winners from each event will vie for prizes provided by Wilderness Sports and Pusher BMX — a huge perk for a free event.

The contest and events take place on the bike park jump line — a set of three dirt jumps of varying sizes, from mini tabletops to the lippy main-line kickers — but the Fling isn’t just for high-flying daredevils.

“You don’t just need to love gnar and big jumps to be out here,” Donner said. “The Bike Fling is all about bringing in new riders while being inspired by the folks who are going big.”

If you need to refuel between events, the adventure park will be selling brats, dogs and other snacks through the day lodge at the base of the bike park. There will also be cold beverages, including beer from Broken Compass.

Day at the Fling

10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Registration opens for the dual slalom race and jump jam. Both events are free.

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Adult road and mountain bike demos from Santa Cruz, Salsa and Specialized. All demos are free.

11 a.m. — Group rides leave from the day lodge. All rides are free and guided.

1 p.m. — Jump jam beings. The competition is held in the bike park and consists of BMX and mountain bikers vying for best trick, highest jump and best line. The jump jam is rider judged, meaning participants will decide who wins. Entry is free and all winners receive prizes from event sponsors.

2:30 p.m. — Dual slalom race begins. Two riders race on two nearly identical tracks next to each other at the bike park, taking them on a ride through slopes with tabletop jumps, doubles and bermed turns. Entry is free and winners receive prizes.

3:30 p.m. — Live music by Horizon Line at the day lodge.
