Local Special Olympians haul in medals
The 2015 Special Olympic Winter Games at Copper Mountain were canceled due to a travel advisory issued by the National Weather Service the weekend of Feb. 21-22, but some athletes made it to the resort and competed in a series of Alpine events. The Summit County Special Olympics Alpine ski team walked away with 12 medals. Vital LaRocque, Kelly Faber, K.C. Farmer, Charlie Fazendin and Caroline Willis each took gold in giant slalom and super-G. Steven Kennedy also added a silver in GS and a gold in super-G.
