ARVADA – When Glenwood Springs wrestler Tyler Phulson pinned Summit High School’s Casey Morrison in the second period of a 4A regional tournament match at Ralston Valley on Saturday, the Tigers’ wrestling season officially came to a close.”I can’t really say why he lost,” Summit coach Jim Melvin said of the freshman, who wrestles in the 103-pound weight class. “(Phulson) had some strength on Casey, but wrestling’s not all about strength. Maybe he had better technique or was more aggressive. … Casey has good technique and knowledge of the sport, it’s just putting that to work.”Morrison, who concluded the season with an individual record of 7-11, finished 1-2 at the two-day regional tournament as one of two Tigers competing. He was the only member of his team to advance to the tournament’s second day.”It was a good experience for Casey and some of the other younger wrestlers we brought with us,” Melvin said. “They got an idea of what the competition is like and where they need to be to compete in this region.”
