EAGLE — The 10th Mountain Roller Dolls will host a roller derby mix-up tournament featuring round-robin elimination, a championship game and a main event of Front Range vs. Western Slope. Audiences can watch skaters from either side of the Continental Divide compete for bragging rights.

This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink, located at 1700 Bull Pasture Road. Tickets are available online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com or from your favorite derby girl. Pre-sale ticket price for adults is $8, $10 at the door. Students and seniors pay $5, and children younger than 5 and military are free. Available concessions include Heidi’s Deli of Eagle, beer from Bonfire Brewery and team baked goods.

The 10th Mountain Roller Dolls will be donating a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales to Girls on the Run of Western Colorado. Girls on the Run serves many families in Summit, Eagle and Garfield counties. The organization conducts a 10-week program for girls in third through eighth grade each fall and concludes with a 5K running event. Last fall, 422 girls participated in the program in the counties of Eagle (171), Summit (163) and Garfield (88).

“The program is successful as its volunteer coaches (55 in the counties of Eagle, Summit and Garfield) dedicate 50 hours of training each season,” said Allison Hanson, Eagle County’s coordinator. “The impact of the group’s mission, to provide an accessible, inspiring and experience-based program that creatively integrates running while empowering girls to be healthy, respectful, confident and joyful for life, is felt by the girls’ families and celebrated throughout the community.”

The 10th Mountain Roller Dolls are a flat track roller derby league based in Eagle. Membership extends to the neighboring communities of Summit, Garfield and the Roaring Fork Valley. The league dedicates itself to empowering women 18 and older in the areas of athletics, competition and sportsmanship. The league coaches its skaters and officials, actively recruits new members and aspires to form a junior league for young skaters in the upcoming year.
