Zach Dobson scored a critical goal early in the third quarter and the Summit High boys’ lacrosse team held on for a 9-7 win Wednesday at Evergreen.
“That was a big goal, giving us some confidence and a two-goal lead,” SHS head coach Michael O’Neill said.
Seniors Sam Dudick and Shamus O’Neill each had four points in the game, while senior goalkeeper Brady Sandsmark made some key saves to preserve the win.
“He came up big a few times in the second half,” O’Neill said.
The Tigers jumped to a big lead early in the game and were ahead 6-2 with only a few minutes before halftime. Then Evergreen rattled off three straight goals, and Summit snuck into the intermission ahead by just one.
Then Dobson’s goal to start the third put Summit back up by two, and the Tigers would go up 9-7 after the third.
Both teams had multiple scoring chances in the final quarter but neither could find the back of the net.
“It was a pretty evenly contested game,” O’Neill said. ” … It was a good game, a good lacrosse game, one of those that’s really nice to win.”
Dylan Horan had two goals in the game and George Gruber added another.
The Tigers (3-1) play two home games this weekend. First, they take on Durango at 4 p.m. Friday, then play Grand Junction at 11 a.m. Saturday.
