Summit girls lacross wins 3 in a row, plus Tigers baseball and track results

Summit and Durango players toe up to the line during a girl's varsity lacrosse game at home in 2016. The Summit girls beat Durango, 15-6, on March 17 at home. The team next takes on Eagle Valley today in Gypsum for a chance to go 2-0 against the rivals after beating EV 9-8 on March 15.

Summit vs. Canon City | Tigers baseball, March 18

A regular-season baseball game against No. 7 Canon City High School in Canon City on March 18. Summit lost its first game of the season, 9-6, to Canon City, which is currently ranked No. 7 in the Colorado State 4A division.

The Tigers next play Arvada High School today (March 22) and Englewood on Friday.

A Canon City recap from head coach Tom Looby:

The lead changed hands five times in the game as Summit kept battling back. We had two men on the bases and the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning, but we couldn't get another clutch hit to keep the rally going.

Senior Andrew Shaw pitched nearly five strong innings for the Tigers. Shaw also went 3-4 at the plate and had three RBIs. Brian Hessler and Sam Hull had two hits apiece. Turner McDonald, Max Hess and Shaw each had doubles for the Tigers.

A regular-season conference lacrosse game against Fruita Monument in Fruita on March 14. The Tigers won, 12-6, for the team's first win of the season.

Summit vs. Eagle Valley | Girls lacrosse, March 15

A regular-season conference lacrosse game, hosted in Frisco at Summit High School on March 15. The Tigers won, 9-8, in a close stunner for the first rivalry win of the season. The team improved to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in the 4A Slope.

A regular-season conference lacrosse game, hosted in Frisco on March 17. The Tigers won, 15-6, and improved to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the 4A Slope.

A result from Summit's game against Denver North on March 20 wasn't available at press time. The Tigers next face Eagle Valley today in Gypsum. Game time is 4 p.m.

Rifle Invite | Tigers track and field, March 17

The opening track and field meet of the 2017 spring season, hosted by Rifle at Rifle High School on March 17. The event drew more than 300 athletes from 22 4A and 3A schools from across the region, including rivals Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain. Summit girls took 13 out of 22 teams, while Summit boys took 22 out of 22 teams.
