Summit girls’ lax sinks Mt. Range 10-2

Though the field at Five Star Stadium was blanketed in fresh snow, nothing could slow down the Summit High girls’ lacrosse team’s red-hot offense or powerful defense Wednesday night against Mountain Range High School in Thorton.
The Tigers dominated from start to finish on a frigid, blustery and snowy day and won 10-2.
“It was a good game, we really put in a good effort in the snow,” SHS head coach Kristin Elliott said after the win. ” … The first half was really snowy and blowy.”
Senior Steph Snyder led the Tigers with three goals on the night, while juniors Jaclin Limone and Jeana Holman both had two apiece.
The story of the night, though, was the Tigers’ defense. Senior goalie Bobby Bouchard stopped 13 out of 15 shots on goal, and Summit smothered the Mountain Range attack for the entire game.
“That’s a really good effort on defense only giving up two goals,” Elliott said. ” … We were being very aggressive and talking a lot on defense and getting back to help Bobby.”
The win marks the fifth victory for the Summit girls in their first six games. That may be a surprising start to the year considering the team can’t practice outside due to the SHS practice fields being covered in snow, but it isn’t a surprise to Elliott.
“It was what I had hoped for,” the first-year coach said. “We do have a lot of talent, so we’re hoping to keep this winning going. It should be a good rest of the month.”
Sydney Schwab, Bri Barto and Victoria Strassler also scored for the Tigers on Wednesday.
Summit (5-1) is back in action on Friday, when the Tigers travel to take on
St. Mary’s Academy. The game is slated to start at 4:15 p.m.
