Summit High: Ladies lax struggles at Kent Denver
April 8, 2009
After being held scoreless in the second half, the Summit High girls’ lacrosse team finished off a tough game at Kent Denver High School Wednesday with a disapointing 18-4 loss.
“It was pretty rough out there,” SHS head coach Kristin Elliott said after the loss. “We played hard. It just didn’t go so well.”
The Tigers received goals from Jaclin Limone, Bri Barto, Rose Neel and Noelle Herrick on the night.
Senior goalie Bobby Bouchard made 12 saves for Summit in the losing effort.
The Tigers were behind only 9-4 in the first half, but then Kent Denver pulled away after the break by scoring nine unanswered goals.
“I think we got down (on ourselves) in the second half,” Elliott said. “That’s what really killed us.”

Heading into Wednesday’s matchup, Summit had won five of its first six games on the season, most by a wide margin. But, with little time spent on a field this season, the Tigers were simply outmatched at Kent Denver.
“We need to work on our defense, and it would help us a lot to get outside and practice,” the Summit coach said.
Due to the weather and lack of an uncovered field, the Tigers have had only two outdoor practices this spring ” both of which were in the SHS parking lot.
“It’s hard when you’re inside all the time, and we have to share the parking lot (with other teams) and have to worry about darkness,” Elliott said. “We just do the best we can ” tell them to practice in game mode.”
The Tigers (5-2) now have a long layoff before their next game. Elliott hopes that won’t affect the team’s play.
“I just hope they come back and play hard,” she said. “We have a week off for (spring) break. Then we need to play hard and finish the season up well.”
Summit plays again April 20 at Golden. The game is slated to start at 4 p.m.
