Even five months after the Summit High rugby team’s season ended with a state championship, the Tiger girls are still making noise.

Four current SHS players and two rugby alums were invited to the U.S.A. Under-20 National Rugby Team Camp, which runs today until Sunday in Clermont, Fla., SHS head coach Karl Barth said.

Seniors Lauren Danielson, Jozy Gessner and Catherine Scanlan, along with junior Bri Barto will compete against 52 of the top collegiate and high school players from around the country for a chance to make the U.S. team that will compete in the Under-23 National All-Star Championships and the U-20 Nations Cup in England this summer.

Malory Ives and Katy Hodson, both 2007 Summit High grads and current players for Colorado State, were also invited to the camp.

Danielson, Gessner and Barto were all integral parts of last summer’s U-20 team that competed in South Africa.

After an undefeated fall season, where the Tigers dominated the competition, the individual accolades continue to pour in.

In addition to the girls named for the national team camp, seven Tigers were named to the Colorado All-State Team and five played at the National Territorial All-Star Championships (NTASC) in November.

Seniors Abby Urias and Brittany Morgan and junior Katy Aceto earned all-state honors along with Danielson, Gessner, Scanlan and Barto. For Gessner and Barto, it was their third time being named to the team. Danielson was selected for the second time, both at different positions.

Topping it off, Gessner was named the Colorado Most Valuable Player.

Danielson, Gessner, Scanlan, Barto and sophomore Alex Copper all represented Summit in the NTASC.

The camp this weekend will be held simultaneously with the USA ‘A’ Development Team’s and the Senior Women’s National Team’s respective camps. It is the first time that all three camps have been held at the same time in the same place.
