Soccer

Soccer kicked off the week with a convincing 8-0 win at Rifle Tuesday night. The team spread the ball around with goals by Thomas DeBonville, Omar Espinoza, Greg Spaulding, Kai George, Alex Veleta and Max Ortiz. The team followed up with a 4-3 win at home against Eagle Valley on Thursday. Summit took a 4-0 lead into the half and then allowed three Eagle Valley goals in the second. DeBonville lead the way with two goals followed by Kai George and Alex Valeta with a goal a piece. Summit hosts Battle Mountain Tuesday in a big rematch with league title implications. Summit won 2-1 at Battle Mountain earlier this season, ending the Huskies 27-game win streak. Summit currently holds the top seat in the Western slope with a 6-0-1 record, 6-3-1 overall.

Volleyball

The girls volleyball team lost a tough game to Battle Mountain Wednesday in three sets. Once again, the young lady Tigers put up a lot of points but were unable to close out sets. They fell to the Huskies 25-20, 25-17 and 25-13. The team will have a busy week as they travel to Steamboat and Eagle Valley early in the week, and then host Glenwood Saturday.

The Summit cross-country team closed the regular season competing in meets at Dakota Ridge and Englewood high schools last week.

On Wednesday the team traveled for an invitational meet hosted by Dakota Ridge at the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. The Tigers competed in a mixed field of 3A, 4A and 5A schools. The race included 20 schools. The Summit boys finished 14th led by Robert Koegel. Koegel finished 46th in 18:48. The boys race was won by Arapaho High School.

The girls team finished 6th of 19 teams. The Summit girls were led by Ruthie Boyd who finished in 7th place in 19:53, her first under 20 minute time of the season. Katherine Pappas was 12th, finishing in 20:19. McKenna Ramsay finished 18th in 20:47. A field of 134 girls participated.

Saturday the team traveled to Englewood High School for the Windjammer Invitational. Four of our top five boys ran their fastest times of the season, again led by senior Robert Koegel who finished in 52nd out of 193. Koegel ran his first sub 18-minute race with a 17:44.
