All season, Summit head swimming and diving coach Jenny Wischmeyer preached to her team about peaking at the right time of the year.

It appears that her swimmers did just that Friday at the two-day Jeffco 4A League meet at Englewood High School.

Summit swimmers qualified through to Saturday’s league finals in five different events, and Wischmeyer said every Tiger competing swam at least one personal-best time on the day.

“I’m so proud of the whole team,” Wischmeyer said after Friday’s prelims. “It was just so fun to watch. Every time they hit the water, girls were swimming their best all year.”

Early in the meet, Katie Andrews and Hilary Morris finished 13th and 15th, respectively, in the 200 freestyle to advance.

Then Summit had three swimmers in both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, earn trips to the finals. Harper Kaufman, Kayla Gray and Agne Mazilauskaite all qualified in the 50 free, then Gray, Kaufman and Andrews advanced in the 100 free.

Mazilauskaite earned a spot in the 100 breaststroke final after finishing ninth in the prelim, and the 200 medley relay team ” Rachel Myers, Gray, Kaufman and Mazilauskaite ” advanced as well.

All in all, it was a very solid performance on the day for the Summit team.

“We dropped about 145 total seconds off our times,” Wischmeyer said. “In about 60 percent of our races, we had our best times of the year.”

Now, the Tigers head into today’s finals with a bit of momentum.

“This is a very exciting end to the season,” Wischmeyer said of the home meet. “Swimming finals is very exciting … and I’m looking for them to have some solid races.”

Along with the swimming finals, the Tigers will also have divers competing in today’s competition. There will be diving prelims in the morning and the finals in the afternoon.
