Summit High assistant tennis coach Will Phan called Tuesday’s match at Machebeuf a “good tune-up” for the Tigers, who have a number of tough teams on the schedule ahead.

Although it may not have been as easy as the scores indicated, the Tigers definitely seem prepared to play Tuesday. Summit swept every match from Machebeuf, winning convincingly 7-0.

“It was a pretty goof performance from everyone,” Phan said. “We had a few double bagels out there.”

In fact, the Tigers had two matches on the day where Machebeuf failed to win a single game. Ali Hartley dominated her match at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-0 and 6-0. The same went for the No. 3 doubles team of Melissa Gordon and Ania Zawadzki, who also won 6-0 and 6-0.

Kali Turrin won her match at the No. 1 singles spot 6-3 and 6-3, while Sophia Bolt needed two tie breakers to earn Summit’s third singles point.

“That was a close match,” Phan said of Bolt’s 7-5, 7-6 win. “She had to have a lot of mental toughness for that one.”

The rest of the Tigers breezed through the day. Julie Oberriter and Molly Herwehe won the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 6-0. In the No. 2 spot, Molly Allen and Laura George won 6-4,6-4, and Julie Arbuckle and Amy Modglin won 6-0, 6-1 in the final doubles match.

The Tigers now have a much tougher test on Thursday when they travel to Evergreen.

‘(Machebeuf) was a little easier than the teams that we’ll be facing coming up next week,” Phan said. ” … We need to play sharper and be more mentally tough. Sometimes, there’s a lot of pressure on the girls, being out there for two hours in a match can be hard to stay sharp.”

Summit (5-3) plays Evergreen on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
