The Summit Lightning peewee B hockey team capped off an impressive season with a runner-up finish in the Continental Divide Youth Hockey League playoffs last week.

Summit dominated both the Junior Eagles and Steamboat Springs before falling 1-0 in a heartbreaking loss to regular-season champ Pueblo.

The Lightning started the tournament with a 5-0 drubbing of the Eagles. Johann Westerhoff scored twice in the game, while Casey Lewerk, Emily Burch and Parker Rothey tallied a goal each. Summit outshot the Eagles 42-2 in the game.

Summit then faced Steamboat in the semifinals. Goalie Wyatt Dickerson made six saves in the thrilling 4-1 win. Michael Farley scored a pair of goals, and Westerhoff and Elle Dice both scored as well.

Despite a strong defensive showing from Summit’s blue-liners – Ryan Rogers, Charlie Peoples, Emily Burch and Brendan Greenberg – the Lightning offense never struck in the title tilt with Pueblo. Summit gave up a power-play goal with just 3:10 remaining in the game and lost 1-0.

The loss put an end to a remarkable season in which the Lightning won 13 games and finished second in both the regular season standings and in the playoffs.
