Summit Range Association wraps up summer with annual Rimfire Challenge
The Summit Range Association (SRA) is wrapping up their summer events with the Summit County Rimfire Challenge on Saturday, Aug. 27. The Rimfire Challenge is an annual event that pits local shooters in a friendly small-caliber rifle competition, while also raising funds for the local nonprofit that operates the Summit County shooting range. Trophies are awarded to the top three shooters in the youth category (12 and under) and prizes go to the top three shooters in the adult category. The Rimfire Challenge is the SRA’s final fundraising event for 2016. The SRA offers firearms instruction courses to the public as part of its fundraising efforts. Fundraising efforts such as firearms courses and Rimfire Challenge, coupled with grants from Colorado Parks and Wildlife and many non-governmental supporters, have enabled Summit County and the SRA to make substantial improvements to the range facilities. The range has seen over 5,300 documented visitors so far this year, already more than were documented the entire year in 2015. The Rimfire Challenge event will be held at the Summit County Range at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, and will be managed by certified range safety officers and instructors. Loaner rifles will be available for use if a competitor does not have their own, and official competition targets will be on sale for $5 each from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. All proceeds from the event will go to the nonprofit Summit Range Association to help operate and maintain the county shooting range.
