Team Breckenridge, Team Summit Alpine skiers represent at U-14 championships in Steamboat

A collection of local Team Breckenridge and Team Summit Alpine skiers qualified to compete at this week’s U.S. Ski & Snowboard Rocky-Central Region U-14 Junior Championships at Steamboat Ski Resort.
The skiing got underway Thursday, as Team Breckenridge’s Kai Boyer led the way for Summit County’s collection of skiers in the 97-racer boys competition. Boyer skied to a fifth-place finish at Thursday’s super-G competition, crossing the finish line at Steamboat with a time of 55.06, just under a half-second off of the pace of Noah Bindas (54.57).
Boyer’s Team Breckenridge teammate Michael Cheek finished in 26th place with a time of 57.65, while Team Breck skier Carson Hume skied to 29th place with a time of 57.73 and Jack Cronin skied to 34th place with a time of 58.21.
Team Summit skier Jack Hammer Hodge skied to 35th place with a time of 58.23, ahead of Team Breck skier Everett Gillett (41st, 58.71) and Team Summit’s Stanley Buzek (44th, 58.85). Team Breckenridge’s Harrison Gayer finished in 71st (1:01.69), followed by Team Summit’s Austin Salem (77th, 1:03.48)
In the 95-skier U-14 girls super-G competition, Team Summit skier Stella Buckheister raced to 27th place with a time of 59.27, nearly three-and-a-half seconds off of the winning pace of Sydney Birtwhistle of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail (55.84). Buckheister’s Team Summit teammate Ella Snyder qualified for this week’s competitions, though she was unable to finish a run during Thursday’s super-G competition. From Team Breckenridge, Keira Horvath skied to a 52nd-place finish with a time of 1:02.31.
The U-14 regional competition will continue Friday with the boys and girls giant slalom, for which all of the above skiers are scheduled to race. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, the Rocky-Central championships will continue with the parallel slalom and the slalom, for which all of the above skiers are scheduled to race.
