In what head coach Sean Carlton called a “nerve-racking” match, the Summit High girls’ tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win at Arvada Tuesday.

Although the final score appeared lopsided, Carlton said the matches were much closer. Three of the seven points Summit won were from matches that went to three sets.

Senior Julie Oberriter had one of the most convincing wins of the day. Competing in No. 1 singles, Oberriter won 6-2 and 6-4 to give the Tigers their first point of the match.

Then, Jessica Cauaciuwon took three sets to win her No. 2 singles match 6-1, 4-6 and 6-2, and Amy Modglin finished off the sweep of singles for Summit, winning 7-5 and 6-1 at the No. 3 spot.

In doubles, the Tigers narrowly took the point in No. 1 doubles, needing a tiebreaker for the third set. In the end, though, Ania Zawadzki and Julie Arbuckle took home the win for the Tigers.

In No. 2 doubles, Melissa Gordon and Sophia Bolt won in straight sets, while Rosa Foth and Christine Fernandez won the No. 3 match 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4.

Amanda Moore and Kenzie Morgan then closed out the match for Summit with a 6-1 and 6-3 win in the No. 4 doubles match.

“The five girls that had the three-set matches played great,” Carlton said. ” … I was so proud of the girls (Tuesday), and it was nice to see the girls have the huge smiles on their faces. It was priceless.”

The Tigers (1-1) are back on the courts Tuesday, when they travel to take on Alameda at 3:30 p.m.
