BOULDER ” The Summit High School cheerleaders took first place in their division at the CU Spirit Challenge this past Saturday.

The CU Spirit Challenge, hosted by the University of Colorado cheerleaders at the Coors Events Center, is one of the largest regional cheerleading competitions in the state. Fourteen high school teams competed in four divisions; Summit claimed first place in the Novice/Small Varsity division.

“It was an exciting day,” SHS coach Amy MacDonald said. “We watched our competition struggle and fall, yet nerves were getting the best of the Summit girls. During our 4-minute warm up on the floor, all of our stunts fell, making the girls even more nervous than they were already. However, our young Summit team was able to pull it together during their performance and hit every stunt to perform a superb routine!

“The girls work so hard all year, it was great to see them excel and be rewarded for it.”

MacDonald congratulated all of her cheerleaders: Brittney Allen, Lauren Bossert, Alex Guras, Ali Hartley, Helen Mastin, Anika McEwan, Ariana McEwan, Ashley Ransberger, DeAnna Reardon, Jessica Sanchez, Miranda Sprague, and Abby Urias.

The Spirit Challenge was the final high school competition in Guras’ distinguished career, her coach said.
