State of the River meetings to discuss water supply for 2005

This year’s water supply outlook and river, stream and reservoir management will be the topics of the State of the River meetings for 2005 in Summit and Grand counties.These annual meetings host the major water management organizations active in these two headwater counties to explain to the public how they anticipate water management decisions will affect local waterways and reservoirs. The public is encouraged to attend these two open forums at the following venues:- Summit County State of the River meeting 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Summit County Community and Senior Center.- Grand County State of the River meeting 6 p.m. Thursday, May 19, Silver Creek Lodging and Conference Center, outside of Granby.Presenters include the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Denver Water, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, the Division of Water Resources, Colorado Springs Utilities, the Colorado River Water Conservation District and the Western Water Assessment.While a number of river basins in Colorado are blanketed in above-average snowpacks and should experience significant drought recovery in 2005, snowfields located in Summit and Grand counties are experiencing below-average conditions for the sixth consecutive year.For information, contact Peter Roessmann at the Colorado River Water Conservation District at (970) 945-8522, ext. 236, or by e-mail at proessmann@crwcd.org.
