Steamboat Springs July 4 fireworks show cancelled

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS – The July 4 fireworks show planned in the city of Steamboat Springs has been cancelled due to high fire danger.Gov. John Hickenlooper issued an executive order last week banning the private use of fireworks, but he said municipal fireworks displays could go on if a local sheriff approves.City Fire Chief Mel Stewart told the Steamboat Pilot & Today on Monday that the city doesn’t want to risk ending up with a fire.The last time Steamboat’s July 4 fireworks show was cancelled was in 2002, when similar dry conditions existed.
