Stephen C. West Ice Arena hires new skating coordinator

The town of Breckenridge has hired U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist Tom Cierniak as the new skating coordinator for the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, effective April 12.

Cierniak brings a wealth of skating experience to the Steve.

As a competitor, Cierniak was the U.S. men’s national novice champion, a figures and freestyle gold medalist in U.S. Figure Skating and a Junior World bronze medalist.

He went on to compete nationally at the senior level, and has starred in numerous skating productions both in the United States and overseas, including Radio City Music Hall’s “Christmas Spectacular” and with Michelle Kwan in the Ice Capades’ “Cinderella Froze in Time” production.

After retiring from performing, Cierniak became a coach and a skating director.

He has coached skaters through regional, sectional and national U.S. figure skating competitions and his coaching resume includes assistant coach for the 2004 U.S. national senior pair competitors, Tiffany Sfikas and Jeffrey Weiss.

Cierniak is well experienced in producing ice shows and skating competitions. He also has overseen the Ice Skating Institute’s learn-to-skate programs.
