Steve Mase: Sick of the whining letters

I am really getting sick of reading the circular rounds of letters to the editor in this paper. All people are doing is complaining and lobbing insults – no one is offering up any legitimate answers. We all know the current health care system is a joke, but we don’t need someone calling us stupid every day if we don’t agree with them. Yes, the Breckenridge Post Office situation is frustrating; the Town of Breckenridge clearly hates us. Locals and tourists are going to keep smiling at each other then whispering insults once out of earshot.

Well, I don’t want to just write in to complain. I want to help fix things, and, while I can’t fix any of the major problems in our community, I can help with the complaining/insulting problem. The other day I was reading about “Dancing with Mountain Stars” or something to that effect and thought that if one reality show rip-off works up here then a second would surely be a success. So here’s my idea: “Mountain Celebrity Boxing.”

Do you hate snobby tourists? Great. Do you hate those local jerks? Awesome. Do you think someone is a moron due to their opinion on the media, health care, Denver Water, socialism, affordable housing or bicycles? Fantastic, I’d love to help all of you out. I think we all learned in our youth that insults and violence are the keys to solving problems, and if it worked on the playground it must work for adults. We can sell tickets and give the proceeds to the charities decided by the winners of the matches. Since this is my idea, I’ll take the initiative. I challenge anyone who doesn’t think we should resolve our differences with charity boxing matches to a charity boxing match. Also, you have poor hygiene.
