S’thorne to mark dead trees

SILVERTHORNE ” Property owners will get some help identifying trees that need to be removed starting Saturday, when surveyors will mark trees that have been hit by pine beetles.

The surveyors will be working during daylight hours only and will be wearing orange vests for easy identification. They will be marking newly infected trees as well as dead and dying trees with a blue paint ring approximately four feet high on each tree.

After the survey, property owners will get a letter telling them how many trees need to be removed. The town’s pine-beetle ordinance requires that trees need to be removed with 10 days of notification.

Failure to remove the trees will result in an abatement order. Violators face potential fines of $300 per day and will be charged twice the full cost of tree removal.
