BRECKENRIDGE ” For ages 6-12, storytime just got a little more interesting. Hamlet’s Book Shoppe owner Mitch Hankins is hosting a Thursday storytime which will include only one story. The rest of the time the kids will be working together to write a book.

“I want it to be an imagination expansion activity,” Hankins said. “Too often (this age group) is just placed somewhere and read to, and they either behave themselves or not.”

He plans to bring out a an easel, and write down ideas each week. Visiting kids as well as locals can join in. What has been written so far will be read before the start of each new session.

Hankins said the only rule so far is that it can’t start “Once Upon a Time …”

He plans to have it illustrated and published, including each of the participating writers’ names, by Labor Day.

A standard storytime for children ages 2-5 is held on Monday nights. Both will begin at 11 a.m.

Call Hamlet’s at (970) 453-8033 for more information.
