Summit Choral Society and The Summit Concert Band are joining for a true community gathering to ring in the holidays.

Every year, the two community groups get together to enhance each other’s performances. Each will play separately, as well as together.

“The vocals give the band … a fuller presentation,” said Jeff Scott, band president.

The Choral Society will perform a number of holiday favorites, such as “Carol of the Bells,” “The First Noel” and “Do You Hear What I Hear,” as well as selections form Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and Daniel Pinkham’s lively Christmas Chorus “Gloria In Excelsis Deo,” accompanied by a brass choir made up of members of the Summit Band.

The Choral Society will also join the band in singing the popular “Hallelujah Chorus” by George Friedrich Handel and “It’s the Holiday Season,” a collection of Christmas favorites arranged by Roger Emerson.

The Choral Society has been going strong for 30 years, made up of volunteers from Summit and Park counties. Several members are or have been professional singers, and director Jeff Wakeley completed his choral training at Westminster Choir College, a renowned choral music school.

The Summit Concert Band is made up of about 20 members, many who played in high school or college and have since renewed their interest in performing.
